An Architect sketches differently from an artist. Artists capture beauty, proportion, detail, people, and often color while sketching landscapes or cityscapes.  Architects capture character, mostly in black and white or similar monotones.  That is why architects spend less time on their sketches because their true purpose is to document particular aspects important to them. Architects must study history with the intent to learn essential lessons on the synthesis of form and space, not for using it as a bag of tricks.
These travel sketches are a cross section of the many sketches this author has done while living and traveling globally.  They are quick 5 minute documentations of  spatial and formal character in urban areas that the author once traveled to. From the author's student perspective, they were intended to study the character and dynamics of urban space. Today they remain a source of inspiration for new designs.
